More of You
Living Life from Your Core Values
I’ve been thinking a lot about core values and purpose lately. Values are what is essential and important to us. And core? Core is the center. Fitness experts tell us that we need to exercise our core muscles to keep them strong and prevent injuries. These muscles act as a stabilizer for movement. In the same way, core values stabilize us as we move through our lives. They ground and define us when our lives flow from them. They prevent “injury” to ourselves and others when we live out our values. They keep us strong in times of turmoil, temptation, and stress. Our purpose is our north star; we set the course of our lives by it.
Recently, a colleague of my husband suggested that he apply for a higher level position that was open within their company. As he related this to me, I could see that he had quickly dismissed the idea. I thought I knew his reasons for not seeking the position, but wanted to be sure, so I asked him, “Why not apply?”
I want to see more of you, not less of you.
He said a lot of things, but the one sentence that jumped out at me was: “I want to see more of you, not less of you.” That one sentence confirmed so much of what I already know about my husband. Not only was it a wonderful affirmation of his love for me, but it also spoke volumes…
